ScienceMatrix:Cell Structure & Function can be run either
directly from the CD or the computer's hard drive, or even over
a network with a building site license.
If you copy it to your hard drive, we suggest you create a folder
on your drive called Cell Structure and Function then copy the
entire contents of the CD to that folder.
Either way, simply click on the ScienceMatrix icon to launch it.
If you are using Text-to-Speech and do not have the Microsoft
SAPI 4 or SAPI 5 speech engine, go to our Text-to-Speech
support page to
download the software.
Make sure your version of QuickTime is up to date
If you launch the program and are prompted to update your version of QuickTime, you must download the latest version. It is available free from Apple at www.apple.com/quicktime.
Text-to-Speech does not work
In order to run the Accessible mode with text-to-speech, you may need to install
additional software. For more details, see our page on Text-to-Speech
issues.
Windows 98/Me Issues
The Build-a-Cell screen crashes after extended use
Machines running Windows 98 or Windows Me with only 64 MB of RAM installed
will sometimes encounter crashes on the Build-a-Cell screen after extended
use. Increasing the computer's memory should address this issue.
Windows NT/2000 Issues
Text-to-Speech reads out "..." as "ellipses points".
We will be upgrading the speech engine used by ScienceMatrix and
hope to be able to address this in future releases.
